The Newborn:
A lot of people have asked me how a newborn fits in the carrier, and the answer is quite well. You'll see in the video below that the carrier can be cinched in for legs out. This was actually Penelope's first time in a buckle carrier. I always recommend taking extra precautions with a newborn. Penelope, at 4 weeks and 10 lbs. has surprising head control. I always make sure her head is supported, and that her head is at a kissable level. It's not my favorite carrier for a tiny newborn, but is a great option if you need something quick, compact and lightweight!
The Infant:
We tested the Boba Air with 8 month old Tiana, she weighs 17.5 lbs. Both Tiana and her mom loved this carrier. Tiana fit perfectly and Yuko was extremely comfortable. Tiana's mom Yuko will actually be using this carrier on outings with her husband. He likes to hold Tiana without a carrier and Yuko is often left with a large SSC around her waist. The Boba Air will be perfect on these trips, then Yuko will be able to fit the carrier in her purse when not in use!
The Toddler:
Ryan is 3 1/2 and around 35 lbs. He is on the taller side and still fit pretty well in the Boba Air. Considering Ryan's size, Kristen could feel a bit of his weight pull on her shoulders. Though it wasn't unbearable both him and his mom are most comfortable in a woven. But those are bulky. The Boba Air would be perfect to throw in a purse for days at amusement parks or fairs, so Kristen would have something quick and light when Ryan is worn out and tired at the end of the day!
Like any soft structured carrier the optimal size of the baby carried is 15-25lbs or 4-18 months. This is for the comfort of the wearer. Since the Boba Air doesn't have shoulder padding, I wouldn't recommend it for your only carrier every day. But considering The Boba Air's features, size and price point I think any babywearing family could benefit from having one of these in their stash. It also makes a perfect go-to carrier for the car, purse, or home emergency kit.
